Kurt Souza and Brandi Holstein fulfilled a dream building and opening Miko's Japanese Cuisine.
The original Miko's was in Vallejo on Tuoulomne St. When Kurt and Brandi moved to Solano County, they became regular customers and began a close friendship with the owners, Miko and Donald.
When they were ready to sell Miko's, Kurt and Brandi bought it.
Due to some financial problems with the business, it fell through.
Kurt and Brandi continued looking for a good location to open the "new" Miko's. They found their place in
downtown Fairfield. Building Miko's the summer of 2008 was exciting and rewarding.
Miko's opened Nov 08. Miko's is a family restaurant with a great children's menu so parents can have sushi and other Japanese food and still enjoy dinner with their children. There is something for the whole family to enjoy.
One of the most rewarding aspects of owning Miko's is the wonderful customers that have made us their regular Japanese restaurant. Many have become very good friends as well.
We always look forward to seeing our regulars and everyone that patrons Miko's, old, new and good friends.
We have a full bar with three Japanese beers on tap. We serve deserts from Rick's Desert Diner in Sacramento. So always read the "cow" for Rick's featured special desert.
If you are a sports fan, we have the NFL ticket. We have 10 tv's.
In closing, there are two things we tell people about us. If we can get you to come in once, you will be back and we are the best kept secret in Fairfield and all of Solano County.
We serve what we would like to eat when we go out for Japanese food.
Miko's Japanese Cuisine in Fairfield at 900 Texas St will be celebrating its 4 year anniversary in Nov of this year.
For over three years we have had the privilege and honor of being a part of the high school Workability I Career Exploration Program. It has been an enriching experience for all involved.
Workability is a program to help high school students learn to fill out application, interviewing skills and experience working in different job environments.
We have had some exceptional students work with us. Some came to us as shy individuals, but staff and many wonderful customers have helped them come out of their shells and become a valued asset to Miko's.
We received a Certificate of Appreciation from Marie Lane, who is the "Employment Training Specialist".
In and article given to us by Ms. Lane, she has a picture and quote from Nick Nevels saying "I enjoy socializing with coworkers. I have gained valuable work experience".
Miko's proudly hangs the article and certificate on the wall for all to enjoy.
As the new school year begins, we look forward to continuing in the partnership in supporting and contributing to the Workability I Program.
We look forward to meeting more young people in this mentoring program and helping them grow into individual and independent people.
We strongly urge other places of business in Fairfield and all cities to join in and help these teens have a rich and rewarding work experience . First jobs should be a positive experience.
